3 days. 6 farms. Free food and accommodation.
What more could Lan ask?
Despite this less than complimentary introduction to Dookie Camp, Lan found it to be extremely informative and mentally stimulating. What more could Lan ask?
A less demanding schedule? More ice cream? Less diluted cordial? Orrr.. more onion in her bread rolls?
Day one.
Departure at 8am, arrival at approx 1045am at an Angus cattle (black beef cattle)/ Merino sheep farm. Lan doesn't really recall much except the numbingly cold wind and the 2hrs spent standing in one spot on the top of a hill. Instead of having lectures in a proper theatre, they had now shifted outdoors without a proper place to rest one's posterior.
Had lunch at Benalla. Worthy of a mention was the nice playground and hot chips.
Next stop was a Poll Dorset Stud ie quite big sheep. Lan learnt that they had partial death wishes (compared to a Merino's full death wish) and that was strongly affirmed with many sightings of rams deciding to jump into the fences at maximal velocity.
Arrived at Melb Uni Dookie campus at abt 530pm. Was led to dorms, inspected showers. Quite satisfactory.
Dinner looked like this:
And dessert looked like this:
Although this was a so called 'camp', Lan had to go to the lecture theatre at 8pm and endure almost two hrs of talks =[
Day two.
Tail docked, castrated, vaccinated and sprayed lambs. Lan found out much to her surprise how long their tails could be (rather akin in appearance to a monkey's really) =/
Lan also got to catch a nice devil lamb, it had horns =D
Yes, we had to wear our trendy overalls
for the whole three days- unwashed.
for the whole three days- unwashed.
Had lunch (SALAMI ROLL YES!) then herded off into a bus to the next destination, a herringbone dairy.
Nothing much worth mentioning besides the fact that Lan was urinated on by an errant cow (twas like a shower!) and a 6 teated mutant cow was also encountered.
It was then time for dinner and it looked like this:
And dessert looked like this. No one could quite figure out how to eat it. You see, that is choc cream but the eclair was filled with strawberry cream..so.. what to do with the choc cream? Such a dilemma..However, being the intelligent one Lan is, she spread the choc cream on her eclair. A feat that she maintains should not be repeated.
After dinner, there were "team-building" exercises, one of which was titled "I am". The task was to write 8 things that one thought best described themselves. Afterward, one would have to wander throughout the dining hall and find someone else with at least 2 of the same characteristics. Needless to say, Lan did not find anyone in the given 20 minutes, well almost. In the last minute she found someone who had both 'full and sleepy', odd huh? As if no one would've thought themselves schiziphrenic..
Day three.
Rotary dairy and beef farm. Nothing spectacularly interesting to mention.
At 330, Bus B headed on home and got back to Parkville campus at 545pm. Unfortunately, lectures continued the next day as per usual.

Other odd photos:
Hungry calf. FYI, this is not Lan's hand.
